Is your TravelScoot not working properly? Follow these steps to identify and resolve the issue.
Part 1: Check the battery
• Is it charged, connected and fully plugged in?
• Charge the battery if necessary!
• Charging problems sometimes occur when the connection between the charging plug and the charging port does not allow current to flow due to dirt, corrosion, or loose pins. Try removing any dirt with a cotton swab and/or apply a small amount of contact cleaner to the plug pins. To test for a loose connection, gently tilt the plug sideways while it is plugged in to ensure better contact between the plug pins and the socket. Observe whether the charger responds. Also make sure that the power cord is securely plugged into the charger.
Here are the LED indicator patterns again (as described in the manual):
If the warning lights on the throttle are lit, proceed to Part 2.
Charging details:
🔴🔴 Two steady red lights: Normal charging
🔴🟢 A red light and a green light: Fully charged (though this does not necessarily mean that the battery can still hold a sufficient charge or that its capacity is adequate).
If the charger is working properly, the problem may lie with the circuit board, the fuse or a faulty battery cell
Is the battery within the operating voltage range?
• Check the battery voltage with a voltmeter – a working battery should read at least 25.5 volts – and up to 28.9 volts when fully charged.
• Failure to charge regularly: Charge the battery after each use or at least every 6 months
• External damage: Check the connections and the AMP plug – if necessary, clean the electrical contacts using a cotton bud and methylated spirits. If water has entered the battery casing, do not use the battery – set it aside and monitor it.
Part 2: Check the engine connectors, electronics and the condition of the cables
• If the scooter only moves when you give it a push, the controller is most likely faulty. If the controller is working properly, the TravelScoot will start moving smoothly from a standstill.
• Disconnect the battery and tilt the TravelScoot to the right
• Check whether the plug connection between the controller and the motor (the cable comes directly from the left rear wheel) has come loose – if so, plug the connectors back in firmly. If you have had the plug fully disconnected, please pay attention to the arrows on the outer end of the plug (ensure the arrows line up when plugging in). Connect the battery and check whether the function has been restored.
• If not, disconnect the battery again and tilt the scooter to the right
• Turn the left wheel with the motor connected – it should turn relatively easily – any jerking or resistance may indicate a faulty controller.
In particular, it indicates a faulty control unit (controller) if the rear wheel turns easily when the motor controller plug is disconnected, but the motorbike is difficult to turn and significant resistance is felt when the motor controller plug is connected.

Check the throttle, on/off switch and controller as follows to ensure they are securely connected. For Deluxe models (up to 2022), remove the plastic protective cap (marked 2 in the illustration) – a small pin (see 1 in the photo) secures the cap from the bottom upwards and can be removed by pressing on the pin with a pointed object (arrow marked 1). - see video link here -

For Escape/Cruiser models (from 2022 onwards): Gently push the cables downwards from the steering column (ideally with the handlebars lowered) so that you can pull the connectors out from behind the steering column. - see video link here -
• Disconnect the throttle/on/off switch from the controller and check it
• Check for corrosion, clean the connections - see video link here - and tighten them Loose connections / wiring issues
• Check for loose connections, pinched cables, etc.

If the DIY repair option doesn’t work, please feel free to send us the parts you think are faulty for a check, or send us the TravelScoot itself; usually, we only need the folded frame that is easy to ship by all parcel services.
Belt-driven models up to around 2007 – critical points:
• Disconnect the manual control connector near the motor and reconnect it.
• Replace the control board in the throttle grip.
• The motor has a built-in controller – if the controller fails, the entire motor must be replaced. - see video link here -
• Throttle levers for belt-driven models have not been manufactured since 2018; however, we still have a limited stock available. - see link -
